Sony add a new 20mm pancake lens and a 18-200mm OSS power zoom lens for cinematographer types

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 24, 2013, In : NEX lenses
Going a little upscale for this round up of NEX lens antics, Sony are about to put out two new lenses In address to the complaint that there's a shortage of NEX lenses to choose from. The new pancake lens for regular snaps will set you back $350 (expected April), and the monster 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS powered-zoom optic lens expected to make your wallet $1,200 lighter as a standalone option (expected March).

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 24, 2013, In : NEX lenses
An inexpensive CCTV lens that you can pick up on eBay for 15 to 20 quid. Be sure to get the kit with a NEX adapter so you can actually use it with your camera. But what would be the point of mentioning it if you couldn't take interesting snaps with it? Click this to Click this to get to a blog with a bunch of samples of what can be done with one.

... that's it. But since I'm skint, and not really in the market for one right now it doesn't effect me anyway. I guess they must have seen the RJ adapter. TechArt site here.

The new stuff they added for the NEX-F3...

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 17, 2013, In : NEX-F3
What's new in the Sony NEX-F3...

- A new external design that now seems to have more in common with the NEX-6 then the 5N.

- It has a different and newer sensor from the C3 and 5N despite still rated as 16 megapixels, its also dropped from 16.2 to 16.1 in count despite still being capable of 16.2.

- It now has a built in pop up flash like the NEX-6.

- It has a newer processor than the C3 and 5N under the hood from what I hear but I've yet to confirm that.

Other more notable differences include:

So if you bought a Sony camera before the 16th of January from a reputable retailer you might want to check if your gear is included in the cash back offer. Click this for the link to the form.

Miss-conceptions about ISO ratings, performance and picture image quality...(... what is your camera for?)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, In : neural bytes
High ISO settings don't necessarily equate to better pictures in low light conditions, although it is true that the higher the ISO capability the more well lit a picture might turn out in low light conditions, even if it is at the expense of higher levels of unwanted visual noise and loss of clarity. But the main hindrance to ISO performance and the ratio of picture quality is determined by the type of sensor, and the image capture resolution in relation to the size of the sensor.

Manual only canon EOS EF lens to Sony NEX E-mount adaptors

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, In : Accessories
If at present your budget won't quite stretch a full auto canon EOS EF lens to Sony E mount body adapter there's always the option to get a full manual one. However if you need something like manual aperture control you might want to avoid the mount adapters that go for around a tenner, as they still won't allow you to manually control the aperture iris built into the canon lenses. 20 to 25 quid will get you a manual only canon EOS lens to E-mount adapter with a built in manual aperture iris ...

Soooah many canon lenses, but what other USM canon EOS EF lens mounts are there for NEX camera bodies?

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, In : Accessories
So it looks like I'll be experimenting with a cheap canon EOS lens mount adapter for purely manual control only for the moment. But for all those with the cash to burn now, what other adapter options are there for harnessing the full automated USM features of a Canon lens with Sony NEX camera body? Well there seems to be a number of options to suite budget, and although the Metabones Speed boost reigns supreme other options might seem a little more suitable for particular needs. Here's a look...

Sony £50 Winter cashback offer on NEX-F3... (...technicalities)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, In : offers
So for a moment there I thought I was going to have to cancel the order and send it back in finding out that application forms for the cash back offer had to be received by the the 16th of January to qualify for cash back. This was having been assured by the sales rep over the phone that it counts from the date of purchase which was like 4 days ago. But after a second call the sales guy assures me I've got till the middle of February for the form to get there, provided I've got the docs to pr...
