So it looks like I'll be experimenting with a cheap canon EOS lens mount adapter for purely manual control only for the moment. But for all those with the cash to burn now, what other adapter options are there for harnessing the full automated USM features of a Canon lens with Sony NEX camera body? Well there seems to be a number of options to suite budget, and although the Metabones Speed boost reigns supreme other options might seem a little more suitable for particular needs. Here's a look at the various options:

Metabones speed boost  Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX

Price : $599
Auto focus : yes
Auto and digital aperture control  : yes
Image stabilization : yes
EXIF: yes
External battery requirement : no

Known documented issues - None that I've come across thus far, just very expensive but its the king (or queen depending on your perspective) of the USM EOS lens to NEX body E-mount adaptors. It's also equipped with an additional lens that widens the viewing angle of your NEX camera even further.

General stuff :  It’s the newest and most expensive of the bunch. Its been specifically designed to improve on their original EF to NEX E mount adaptor.
