HMV to put Jessops booths in stores? (…more general fodder)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 24, 2013, In : Misc

Whats going on?! With recent news of HMV Canada apparently stepping in to put together a rescue effort for the UK stores it looks the whole saga has taken another twist. Camera gear in HMV music stores? To me that doesn't seem so strange an idea having lived in France for a while where they have stores like Fnac.  Fnac is a bit like the French equivalent of HMV. From what I've seen and know of Fnac, its pretty much the most prominent chain of high street/mall store in France to sell a compre...

Blockbuster's miss-fortune brings you Max Payne 3 on PC for a tenner in store... (... and a whole bunch of other stuff)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Friday, January 18, 2013, In : Gaming

With Blockbuster still looking for a buyer its kind of left their in store PC games section seriously undercutting online download providers like Steam and EA's Origin for some of the most current and biggest titles. I would have put a tenner down for Max Payne 3 (not even listed on the Blockbuster website) there and then if I wasn't totally peppered already. Essentially the aftermath of administration has pretty much put a whole slew of decent top rate boxed PC titles way under the usual dow...

Sony DSC-HX10V 18megapixel 16x zoom pocket compact... chewed up and spat out resulting in a reputable retailer price slash

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Friday, January 18, 2013, In : Camera's

It hardly got rave reviews when it first landed, and it pretty much got slated by most of the reviews I came across for it. The main claim being that it was an alright camera with excellent picture quality with up to 18.2 megapixels for a jpeg only pocket sized snapper. At well over £250 to £350 MSRP they reckoned they couldn't justify the slow focus performance and the LCD screen blanking out till it had captured all 5 to 10 frames fps and processed them whilst using burst mode, that's w...

I actually looked up Panasonic's new line up of rugged "tough pads"

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 17, 2013, In : Tablets

Tough pad's made of Android  in ice cold sandwiches

More seriously though, the range of new of Panasonic Android 4.0 tough pad's do look well suited for professional industries across the board. The almost ridiculous level of enterprise class security found on their 7 and 10 inch Android tough pads is just something I'd never  expected to see on any type of consumer class Android device. With daylight readable 500 nits LED panels and a micro SD slot they could even serve as a lightweight ins...

The new Panasonic "tough" range now has a "tough pad"

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, January 17, 2013, In : Tablet PC

I'd normally just pass over words reading "Panasonic tough book/touch pad" for someone else to pick up like bread ends of a sliced loaf. They usually conjure up thoughts of serious business and serious in the field work for serious things. Even the Lenovo brand has a little more edge to it then it used to with its more hipster like range of machines. But this article firmly imprinted the words of "Panasonic tough pad" firmly in my brain. For the full coverage of the press conference and prev...

Canon EOS EF lens mount adaptor for Sony NEX camera's (... Metabones new version called the speed booster)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, In : Camera's

So whilst looking into regular manual Canon EOS EF lens adaptors for Sony's E-mount standard I came across the Metabones Auto lens mount adaptor. Essentially its an adaptor that's equipped with a ROM that will let you attach and harness all the motorized features of Canon EOS EF lenses with a NEX camera body regardless of whether you're shooting video or stills. The original Metabones wasn't without its flaws from the video evidence I'd previously seen, and at $400+ it was a little expensive...

The pocket-able compact hunt continues...

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, In : Camera's

I felt I had to see what else was happening beyond just my bias towards Canon and Sony gear as far as digital picture taking was concerned (based on past experience of them). Whilst looking around I came across the OLYMPUS SZ-20, and I've not used an Olympus since the days when we had to pay to get roll film developed at a shop. All I know is that they've been doing it for a long time in a specialized field kind of way long before proven players like Panasonic and Sony stepped into the camera...

Achos reckon's they were being saucy by announcing they're going to have a go at the sub 100 quid tablet at CES, Sumvision shrug

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Sunday, January 13, 2013, In : Tablets

Yet another 7 inch Android 4.1 jelly bean tablet to battle it out for the under a 100 quid title, and it couldn't be more so apt with players like Archos merely teasing at the fact that they wanted to have a go at the most recent CES. At £79 you'll have to go without a rear facing camera and make do with an 800x600 IPS LED panel, however the rest of the specs might just be enough to tempt a few more into 7 inch Android 4.1 tablet ownership. Am I racist for saying all these android tablets ar...

Compact auto or full manual snaps on a budget from a name you've probably heard of...

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Sunday, January 13, 2013, In : Camera's

When I first saw the Canon Power shot SX130 camera's I did kind of think they looked pretty lame to say the least. I was even a little more bewildered when I found out that they had updated it by bumping it up from 12 to 14 megapixels with a whole bunch of extra features including image stabilization and called it the SX150. Essentially they were supposed to be point 'n' shoot compact camera's and by today's standards they're hardly sleek nor compact when put next to many other modern compact...

Qualcomm CES new Snapdragon processor announcements... (...means faster talkie sticks and tablets with better graphics and longer battery life)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, In : Tablets

It looks like your smart phones and tablets are about to get even smarter and a little faster. For the comparative processing power it looks like mobile devices are set to become even more useful away from a desk (or couch) with the announcement of the current snapdragons (found in the current nexus 4 talkie sticks) big brother being penciled in for release into mobile devices some time mid 2013, the Snapdragon 800. It's said to encompass a Krait 400 quad core processor that can scale each of...

A Valve steam games piston machine on hold for now…

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, In : Gaming

All the "will they-won't they", partly sort of making it up as they go along, ripe enthusiast generated momentum of grape vine speculation fueling the turns of fate leading to any potential release for the Valve piston Xi3 gaming machine for 2013 has taken a lesser make.believe turn as far as any potential general user acquirement goes. It looks like a Valve engineer has dashed many a futurists of the "we want the recycling already available and yet to be drip feed onto the market development...

AOC brings more affordable portable 15.6 inch USB connected and powered 1366x768 LED monitor antics

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, In : Laptops

There aren't actually many serious and well known producers of slim and light portable USB powered monitors of a decent size other then the offerings from Toshiba and more recently Lenovo which retail for about £170 if not a little more. That is until now, OEM monitor manufacturer AOC is now entering the mainstream consumer segment of the market too with their light weight portable 15.6 inch E1649FWU USB signal connected and USB powered LED monitor. It certainly undercuts the competition by ...

Valve show off Xi3 Steam machine at CES, aptly call it Piston

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Tuesday, January 8, 2013,

So after much seeming speculation it looks like Valve turned up at CES with their chosen hardware to fill the shoes of their "Steam machine" in a bid to bring PC gaming into the living room space and onto the big screen. More likely to be the case that this was the result of valve reportedly throwing down lots of money as one of several investors to help boost the Xi3 profile and move the hardware along from last year. But no doubt this heavy investment will potentially result in a "Steam mac...
