The reason why I'd recommend Virtual DJ as a DVS option for the Z4 despite not having tested it first hand

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 16, 2012, In : DVS

I didn't actually know much about virtual DJ until DJdecks made the announcement that they had actually merged operations with the commercial project/commercial product known as Virtual DJ. Sure its name didn't have the greatest of rings to it (in fact the name DJdecks was pretty lame and initially didn't actually make me want to buy it), but that aside having been a long time DJdecks user after reading many glowing reviews about it before hand, it seemed odd that they were shutting down the...

Using MIDI foot pedals with the Z4

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, In : Korg Zero 4 midi

Its MIDI, its mechanical, and it aint ugly. Whether you're working it in as part of your live Zero 4 DJ/production setup, or for rocking out with a stringed axe to better harness lives effects modules in a more intuitive way, you couldn't go too far wrong with the German behringer offering. Price varies from $140 to $200 depending on where you buy from. But don't take my word for it you check out the full low-down from owners over at the Ableton forums by clicking this or you can get to the...

Zero 4 guitar input (Removing the dry signal when applying effects in Ableton)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012, In : Ableton

For all those who might have still been getting an unwanted dry signal still coming through under the effected guitar sounds after applying any number of single or chained effects modules in Ableton, there's a simple audio routing fix for it over at the Ableton forum. Click here

Using the Zero 4 with a Mac and Traktor pro (...plug in to play)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012, In : Korg Zero 4 midi

The sum of it? It doesn't need any additional system drivers for using it with Trakor pro from what I can gather. You just need to plug it in and set the midi in/out setting appropriately from within the Traktor app control menus if you want midi control assign features to work. But I'm just repeating here. Here's the actual thread as detailed by Skratchlounge.

Fixing the Zero 8's hiss problem... (...2011 post)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012, In : Korg zero 8

I don't actually own a Zero8 although I wouldn't mind owning one, but here's the fix for it without having to read a whole bunch of stuff that would otherwise scare you into thinking there was something majorly wrong with an otherwise perfectly functioning mixer. But apparently there was a hiss issue on it with a fix that kind of goes like this...

How to "cue monitor" (better refered to as pre-mix monitoring) on the Zero 4 when using all four ASIO channels for main/room mix output in total MIDI mode (via a seperate soundcard)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012, In : Korg Zero 4 midi

If you're using the mixer in analogue mode or hybrid audio mode then you should have no problems using the pre-mix monitor as normal. However, the problem arises if you are using the mixer in total midi mode (when nearly all the lights on the mixer are green) and want to use all 4 ASIO channels in your chosen DJ application or DAW app, under these circumstances when all the ASIO channels are required for post mix/main room output its not possible to pre-mix monitor.

Just so there is no mix up...

Korg Zero 4 DJ Mixer bag by Korg

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Sunday, August 12, 2012, In : accessories

Ok, having labored the decision of acquiring a Korg Zero 4 mixer all those years ago for its all in one solid integration of professional digital and analogue mixing features against other less integrated pro DJ hardware solutions, I haven't actually been able to let go of my Zero4 after the many years I've had it so far. It is very much so still quite advanced against many other alternative full sized mixer solutions that don't even come close, and it still leaves much of the competition sta...

Unwanted Audio hssss whilst using the zero 4 in Vinyl emulation mode with a DVS

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Saturday, August 11, 2012, In : Traktor

I've not really worked any vinyl emulation antics on the Zero 4 for a while but from what I can recall the analogue audio signal pickup from your time code vinyls shouldn't really affect the audio output of the actual digital audio file output from TSP (otherwise from the internal audio card output being used by TSP) as they're routed from a completely different set of channels with no analogue pass-through from the timecode vinyl. If there was any signal bleed/pass through from incorrect au...

turning on 192KHz ASIO mode

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Saturday, August 11, 2012, In : audio streaming

I've not been able to get it to work at 192KHz audio mode with any windows 7 based computers I've used so far but you might have better luck. If you're already working in total midi mode on the mixer in conjunction with the built in audio card of the mixer, you'd hardly be missing out if you can actually get it to work in a stable way at 192KHz since you'd be using the EQ modules and effects in your chosen DAW app. Switching to 192Khz ASIO mode causes the EQ settings and effects on the mixer ...

How to fix midi control assignment problems on the Zero 4 (Hard reset procedure)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012, In : Korg Zero 4 midi

I reckon there might be a few abandoned Zero4 mixers out there if not re-purposed or just sold on because of this fixable issue. You might have ran into this issue whilst trying out many various DJ or production antics that you can do with what is  a pretty versatile digital/analogue mixer.

These issues only occurs in full MIDI control mode and not analogue/digital or analogue/digital/Midi hybrid mode.

symptoms: If you found that the MIDI implementation is all messed up whilst in full MIDI mod...

Anomalous Ableton midi control behavior on the zero 4 caused by none local assignments on a remote system somewhere far away

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012,

Symptoms - track channel volume slider automatically slides back down every time  user sets it all the way to maximum volume by sliding it quickly.

This usually happens when a generic sound leveling/cap compressor has been assigned to a particular channel with a user or pre-defined peak threshold setting. That is when the sound level goes beyond the set peak output level the assigned compressor will automatically lower the levels for you to stop it from going beyond the specified/pre-defined ...

Windows 8 Preview for DAW use in conjunction with the Zero 4? Absolute Epic win...

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012,

2 ms ASIO latency and completely stable @ 96, 48 and 44.1 KHz

All those years of constant justification and being resigned to just calmly saying "Oh well, it'll hopefully pan out somehow" for generally constant hit and miss DAW performance and many instances of it seriously fucking up now realistically looks like its all going to go away once and for fucking all??!!! THANK FUCKING FUCK FOR THAT!!

I know I said windows 7 was fast pre and post release, and it is for general use. But due to my...

Windows 8 Release Preview build 8400 getting it on as a DAW (HW: M6400, Zero4)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012, In : Operating systems

GPU rendering of the workspace with all the numerous peak level meters bouncing up and down at full 1920x1200 resolution via an fx2700 was pretty smooth even with everything going on all at once. Under the same kind of scenario Windows 7 would greatly struggle with something like XP64 getting much closer to what this build of 8RP was actually achieving from what I can remember. Keep in mind that Windows XP64 doesn't have the advantage of a hyper-V build server edition core integrated into its...

An unexpected dead end with XP64 for now, trying Windows 8 developer preview 8102 build (HW: M6400, Zero4)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012,

Having kind of reached a dead end with XP64 I thought I might as well move forward instead and see what the score was with Windows 8 on the DAW performance front. I decided to use the windows 8102 developer preview build since I had it on a back up drive and having read somewhere that they had apparently extended the full user activation period till the first couple of months or so of 2013. However after installing it and trying to activate it doesn't seem to be the case at all for this parti...

Trying to get back to XP64 on the Zero 4 in combo with the M6400 and failing...

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012,

I remember how much better XP64 ran with the Zero 4 mixer before the constant slog of actually trying to get it to work with Windows 7 64, so I thought I might as well aim for that in the meantime since I was all out of ideas and options for the moment. However it seems my mixer no longer works with XP64 at all despite having done so a couple of years ago. A shame really as the M6400 has full XP64 support too. The epic fail kind of panned out like this...

First snag...

It seems firewire stream...
