Moving over to a 500GB hybrid Seagate momentus XT hybrid SSD…

So after trying W7 again for it to fail what else was there I haven't yet tried? Running it all from my hybrid SSD. There's a reason why I didn't want to do this, mainly because if it previously was able to work perfectly on a standard 7200RPM spinning platter hard drive under a higher system load, why could it now not function without any problems with an even lighter processor load having removed and deactivated a whole bunch of audio effects and plugins. This was the reason I was original...

Back to using the Z4 and Ableton Live 7 with Windows 7

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, October 8, 2012, In : Operating systems

Sitting tight till the 26th was just not on the cards, especially after more recent bouts of testing with the pre-release build of 8 within the UK which seemed to turn out results that were disappointing to say the least. More to the point windows 8 release preview whilst testing it outside of the UK seemed to work without a single flaw on a standard 2.5 inch 7200RPM spinning platter hard drive for Ableton DAW purposes. During those tests in S.E.Asia not a single audio drop or pause occurred...

Windows 8RP tweaked and retested with the Z4 and Ableton in the UK (...does a little better)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Saturday, September 29, 2012, In : Operating systems

With a little bit of tinkering within the settings it looks like W8RP has gotten a little closer to being how it was when it first shone in testing when used with the Z4, but only in part.

Visual rendering issues resolved

It looks like Aero was just something that had to go this time round despite previously being able to render all the same kinds of visuals super smoothly in 8 with Aero on. But in switching to none  Aero mode I was now able to smoothly run all the visual elements for Ableto...

Windows 8 release preview performs terribly for the same DAW type applications in the UK??!

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, In : Operating systems

Having arrived back in the UK it looks like the performance of the release preview build of Windows 8 on the same hardware has vastly deteriorated despite not having changed the equipment configurations.

Just to be sure I reinstalled the W8RP OS fresh to still glean the same deteriorated results in system performance. Video rendering under the same system loads was now vastly choppier for stutter and audio drop to now be apparent where it hadn't been previously the case whilst in Cambodia. Th...

Windows 8 Release Preview build 8400 getting it on as a DAW (HW: M6400, Zero4)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 9, 2012, In : Operating systems

GPU rendering of the workspace with all the numerous peak level meters bouncing up and down at full 1920x1200 resolution via an fx2700 was pretty smooth even with everything going on all at once. Under the same kind of scenario Windows 7 would greatly struggle with something like XP64 getting much closer to what this build of 8RP was actually achieving from what I can remember. Keep in mind that Windows XP64 doesn't have the advantage of a hyper-V build server edition core integrated into its...
