Full SSD antics could potentially fix it all

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, October 8, 2012 In : accessories

I woke up Saturday morning back in the UK to find a damaged SSD drive that I'd been trying to RMA for over a year on the carpet next to my bed. There wasn't much I could do with it whilst I was staying in S.E.Asia, mainly because it would have cost me three times the price of the actual SSD itself just to actually RMA it back from Asia to Europe. The very sight of it just made me more physically fatigued, so I just rolled over thinking "I can't be arsed" and went back to sleep.

A couple of h...

Moving over to a 500GB hybrid Seagate momentus XT hybrid SSD…

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, October 8, 2012 In : Operating systems

So after trying W7 again for it to fail what else was there I haven't yet tried? Running it all from my hybrid SSD. There's a reason why I didn't want to do this, mainly because if it previously was able to work perfectly on a standard 7200RPM spinning platter hard drive under a higher system load, why could it now not function without any problems with an even lighter processor load having removed and deactivated a whole bunch of audio effects and plugins. This was the reason I was original...

Back to using the Z4 and Ableton Live 7 with Windows 7

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, October 8, 2012 In : Operating systems

Sitting tight till the 26th was just not on the cards, especially after more recent bouts of testing with the pre-release build of 8 within the UK which seemed to turn out results that were disappointing to say the least. More to the point windows 8 release preview whilst testing it outside of the UK seemed to work without a single flaw on a standard 2.5 inch 7200RPM spinning platter hard drive for Ableton DAW purposes. During those tests in S.E.Asia not a single audio drop or pause occurred...

Windows 8RP tweaked and retested with the Z4 and Ableton in the UK (...does a little better)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Saturday, September 29, 2012 In : Operating systems

With a little bit of tinkering within the settings it looks like W8RP has gotten a little closer to being how it was when it first shone in testing when used with the Z4, but only in part.

Visual rendering issues resolved

It looks like Aero was just something that had to go this time round despite previously being able to render all the same kinds of visuals super smoothly in 8 with Aero on. But in switching to none  Aero mode I was now able to smoothly run all the visual elements for Ableto...

Windows 8 release preview performs terribly for the same DAW type applications in the UK??!

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 In : Operating systems

Having arrived back in the UK it looks like the performance of the release preview build of Windows 8 on the same hardware has vastly deteriorated despite not having changed the equipment configurations.

Just to be sure I reinstalled the W8RP OS fresh to still glean the same deteriorated results in system performance. Video rendering under the same system loads was now vastly choppier for stutter and audio drop to now be apparent where it hadn't been previously the case whilst in Cambodia. Th...

The reason why I'd recommend Virtual DJ as a DVS option for the Z4 despite not having tested it first hand

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Thursday, August 16, 2012 In : DVS

I didn't actually know much about virtual DJ until DJdecks made the announcement that they had actually merged operations with the commercial project/commercial product known as Virtual DJ. Sure its name didn't have the greatest of rings to it (in fact the name DJdecks was pretty lame and initially didn't actually make me want to buy it), but that aside having been a long time DJdecks user after reading many glowing reviews about it before hand, it seemed odd that they were shutting down the...

Using MIDI foot pedals with the Z4

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 In : Korg Zero 4 midi

Its MIDI, its mechanical, and it aint ugly. Whether you're working it in as part of your live Zero 4 DJ/production setup, or for rocking out with a stringed axe to better harness lives effects modules in a more intuitive way, you couldn't go too far wrong with the German behringer offering. Price varies from $140 to $200 depending on where you buy from. But don't take my word for it you check out the full low-down from owners over at the Ableton forums by clicking this or you can get to the...

Zero 4 guitar input (Removing the dry signal when applying effects in Ableton)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012 In : Ableton

For all those who might have still been getting an unwanted dry signal still coming through under the effected guitar sounds after applying any number of single or chained effects modules in Ableton, there's a simple audio routing fix for it over at the Ableton forum. Click here

Using the Zero 4 with a Mac and Traktor pro (...plug in to play)

Posted by Eksovichea Tito Hak on Monday, August 13, 2012 In : Korg Zero 4 midi

The sum of it? It doesn't need any additional system drivers for using it with Trakor pro from what I can gather. You just need to plug it in and set the midi in/out setting appropriately from within the Traktor app control menus if you want midi control assign features to work. But I'm just repeating here. Here's the actual thread as detailed by Skratchlounge.
